Forty lucky Storm Lake Elementary School students raced to the brand new playground on the west side of the school Tuesday morning despite blustery conditions.
"We’ve been waiting 12 years for this," said Principal Barb Lange. The playground was in the original plans for the building, but the project kept being put off. The structure was "eye candy" for the kids, said Lange, for the past few weeks as they waited for the fence to be put up around it.
Student ambassadors (fourth-grade leaders) and others selected randomly from each classroom were the first to enjoy it.
