Orbia buys fumaric acid business from Neotrimental

May 12, 2023May 12, 2023

Mexico City — Mexican specialty chemicals maker Orbia Advance Corp. SAB de CV has acquired the fumaric acid business of Neotrimental SA de CV, a subsidiary of Grupo IMSA SA of Colombia.

Neotrimental is now part of Orbia Polymer Solutions, whose product lines include AlphaGary PVC compounds, Orbia said in a Spanish-language news release May 11.

Gautam Nivarthy, Orbia Polymer Solutions' president, said the deal would have the "double benefit" for Orbia of "driving the expansion of our client list and giving Polymer Solutions efficient production control" at its Altamira facility on the Gulf of Mexico.

"The acquisition of Neotrimental will enable us to expand into the area of fumaric acid food additives that allow for the safe and stable conservation of food, thus alleviating the problem of waste," said Santiago Urbina, Orbia Polymer Solutions' commercial vice president.

Orbia, known as Mexichem until 2019, makes PVC pipe, resins and compounds, among other products. Product lines in addition to AlphaGary include Wavin pipe, Dure-Line conduit and Vestolit PVC resin.

Orbia has 22,000 employees across the world and had revenue in 2020 of $6.4 billion. The company was formed in 1953.
